Omicron Updates: Hong Kong has tightened its controls on the rising number of cases of Omicron, a variant of Kovid 19, in the country. Hong Kong has banned flights from eight countries, including India, until January 21.
Apart from India, travelers from Australia, Canada, France, Pakistan, the Philippines, the UK and the USA have been banned for two weeks, according to reports.

The ban will be in place for two weeks from next Saturday, the South China Morning Post reports. In addition to the ban on air travel, Hong Kong has imposed strict restrictions, including international travel bans, restrictions on public events and night curfews.
Omicron (Omicron) Restaurants will be closed for two weeks after 6pm due to the possibility of the outbreak spreading rapidly. Playgrounds, bars and beauty salons are also closed during this time. Carrie Lam, Hong Kong’s chief executive officer, said strict laws needed to be put in place to prevent the spread of the infection to the community.

The new restrictions are part of the country’s preparations to face the fifth wave of Kovid. Omicron Visitors from eight countries or countries that recently imposed restrictions to prevent the spread will be barred from returning to Hong Kong for two weeks. Lam says these measures will help prevent the formation of omegae in the community. Kovid confirmed 38 people in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Leading microbiologist Professor Yuen Kwok-jung said the fifth wave of Kovid-19 had arrived “technically”. A total of 12,799 cases were reported in Hong Kong on Wednesday, with 38 cases reported. So far, 213 people have died from the infection.
