Honor Launches Magic9 Pro Max With ARRI Cinema Workflow

Honor launched the Magic9 Pro Max in China on September 28, 2026, introducing an end-to-end professional cinema workflow co-engineered with ARRI. The flagship mobile system integrates ARRI Image Science, LogC3 recording, and dual 200-megapixel cameras into a handset powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform.

With the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, the strategy changes from superficial simulation to deep pipeline integration. Unveiled in Beijing, the flagship brings professional camera-grade color science directly into a mobile device.

The lineup spans three models — the Magic9, the Magic9 Pro Max, and the Magic9 Super Edition — each targeting a different priority, from imaging to endurance. The launch marks the first time ARRI’s logarithmic encoding and color space standards, long the province of cameras used on films like The Revenant and 1917, have been embedded into a mass-market smartphone available below $1,000.

The partnership between Honor and Munich-based camera manufacturer ARRI moves beyond simple co-branding.

Inside ARRI Mobile Cinema Workflow and Hardware Integration

The core of the system lies in how the phone handles image data before compression. The camera’s image signal processor executes noise reduction in the RAW domain at 14-bit 4:4:4 internal processing depth with zero chroma subsampling. That 14-bit 4:4:4 internal pass means more color channel information survives before the footage is compressed for recording.

Harald Brendel added that the company worked with HONOR to calibrate against actual ALEXA test material, with the goal of making footage from the Magic9 Pro Max behave predictably in the same professional pipeline as footage shot on an ALEXA. The mobile workflow combines these capabilities with HONOR’s imaging hardware and processing, professional sound, Cinematic LiveVideo and modular creation tools, creating a more consistent path from the moment light reaches the sensor to the final graded image.

The system supports recording at up to 4K 60fps, with ARRI Looks available for real-time preview to help creators make more deliberate color choices on set. HONOR Magic9 Pro Max includes 14 preset ARRI Looks, including two established ARRI conversion Looks and 12 stylized Looks, while the ARRI Look Library offers 87 predefined creative color gradings.

Dual 200-Megapixel Optics and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Performance

Powering the optical assembly is a dual 200-megapixel configuration. The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max features a 200MP Ultra Night Main Camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, an f/1.57 aperture, OIS and 3-degree gimbal-level stabilization, paired with a 200MP Ultra Night Telephoto Camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, an f/2.6 aperture and OIS. Both achieve CIPA 8.0 stabilization performance.

A 50MP Ultra-wide Camera with an f/2.0 aperture completes the rear camera system. The self-developed HONOR Imaging Chip H1 is built on a 6nm process and delivers 18.8 TOPS/W energy efficiency, moving AI noise reduction into the RAW domain in real time to preserve more original image information. Hardware accessories expand the system further, including optional creation accessories such as the HONOR Teleconverter G200, HONOR Teleconverter G500, and a SmallRig Mobile Video Kit. The 500mm unit enables up to 17x optical zoom when combined with the periscope camera, making it the longest available external lens accessory for any smartphone as of today.
