The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, as part of her visit to Ioannina for the celebrations of the 111th anniversary of the liberation of the city, attended the eulogy at the Holy Church of Agios Athanasios.
Ms. Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath on the Hero of Bizanomachon and declared:
“The liberation of Ioannina from the Turkish yoke, on February 21, 1913, is a milestone in our long history. The epic battles of the Greek army for the capture of the fortresses of Byzantium, the massive participation of volunteers, men and women, in the fight on the continental front, move us and arouse us.
We honor those who fought and gave their lives for this holy cause. Their contribution to the homeland is invaluable and is a timeless example for all of us.”
