The reason for being overweight is sometimes not eating too much or not being physically active, but metabolic disorders and hormonal imbalances.

The effect of hormones on the body is expressed by the rate of metabolism, appetite, weight gain or loss, etc.

It is necessary to visit an endocrinologist before following various diets on your own initiative.

Hormones that prevent weight loss.

Leptin. Leptin is another name for the satiety hormone, which is produced by the body’s adipose tissue cells.

Its main function is to communicate the feeling of satiety to the brain. If the diet contains too much fructose, the body turns it into fat deposits. This leads to an excess of leptin, which over time causes resistance to this hormone. As a result, the body doesn’t “know” whether you’re hungry or not, causing you to keep eating and gain weight.

Healthy sleep is primarily responsible for leptin balance. With lack of sleep, the level of this hormone drops, as a result of which you do not feel full after eating.

Food rich in omega 3 should also be included in the diet: fish, meat, chia seeds. Try to consume less fructose and exercise.

Insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas and helps regulate glucose (blood sugar) levels.

An insulin imbalance makes it difficult to lose weight. If you abuse sweets during the day, you force this hormone to work in overdrive. In an attempt to rid the blood of excess sugar, insulin turns it into fat.

It is necessary to remove sweets from the diet, use more proteins, legumes, non-starchy vegetables.

Cortisol. Cortisol is the stress hormone. It is responsible for regulating our behavior in stressful situations. If you are under too much stress, it can contribute to the accumulation of cortisol in the body.

Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a day. Include foods that contain tryptophan and melatonin in your diet: cottage cheese, turkey, kiwi, cherries. Consume less caffeine and avoid gadgets at least 2 hours before bed.

Thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones, T3 and T4, are also responsible for increasing or decreasing body mass by regulating metabolic rate.

A lack of these hormones, known as hypothyroidism, can slow down the metabolism and result in weight gain. This can also be accompanied by constant fatigue and other digestive problems.

To increase the level of thyroid hormones, you should eat a lot of protein, include broccoli, spinach, cabbage in your diet. Try to get more sun and stay away from stressful situations.

Estrogen. Estrogen is the female sex hormone. There is a deep connection between menopausal weight gain and estrogen. During this time, the level of hormones in the woman’s body drops, and despite the low level of estrogen, its dominance over progesterone can contribute to the accumulation of fat in the abdominal area.

To maintain the balance between estrogen and progesterone, experts recommend consuming vegetables rich in fiber. Also, try to eat less red meat and sugary foods and exercise more.

It is important to determine the level of hormones through a blood test, which should be prescribed by an endocrinologist.
