Pizza Hut Returns to Hornell, New York, After Five-Year Hiatus
Table of Contents
After a five-year absence, residents of Hornell, New York, will once again be able to enjoy Pizza Hut favorites, as a new location is slated to open on January 1, 2026. The restaurant, a familiar fixture in the community, will reopen at its previous address in the Hornell Shopping Plaza, located at 1000 State Route 36.
A Long-Awaited Reopening
The return of Pizza Hut to Hornell has been met with considerable anticipation. The franchise initially closed its Hornell Plaza store in July 2020, coinciding with widespread temporary closures of dine-in locations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The space was briefly occupied by Rico’s Pizza before that business also ceased operations. According to management, the new location officially received its permit of occupancy on December 30, 2025, clearing the final hurdle for its reopening.
Carryout and Delivery Focus
The new Hornell Pizza Hut will primarily function as a carryout and delivery store, adapting to evolving consumer preferences. While limited seating will be available, the restaurant will not offer traditional table service, a salad bar, or the popular Pizza Hut buffet. Customers will place orders at the front counter. However, the franchise will maintain a strong digital presence, partnering with DoorDash and Uber Eats to facilitate online ordering and delivery services.
Staffing and Operational Details
Allegany Pizza LLC, the operator of the Hornell location, anticipates hiring approximately 35 employees. A formal grand opening is scheduled for Monday, January 5, following a soft opening on New Year’s Day, according to Vern Flinn, chief operating officer of Allegany Pizza LLC. Initial hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. A company representative cautioned that reduced hours may be necessary in the beginning, depending on supply availability and initial demand.
A History in the Maple City
This marks the third iteration of Pizza Hut in Hornell. Beyond the Hornell Plaza location, the franchise previously operated a restaurant on Center Street for many years. Founded in 1958, Pizza Hut is owned by Yum Brands, which also owns KFC and Taco Bell. Allegany Pizza LLC currently operates four other Pizza Hut locations in the Southern Tier, including restaurants in Olean, Geneseo, Corning, and Jamestown. The Corning location opened in September 2024.
The return of Pizza Hut signifies a renewed dining option for the Hornell community, offering a blend of familiar favorites and modern convenience.
