A particularly difficult scene was discovered this morning (Saturday) by the inspector of the Nature and Parks Authority, Tomer Efri, when he arrived at the Mevo Ashdod nature reserve as part of a routine inspection tour. Upon his arrival at the reserve, which is located in an open nature area in the area of the city of Ashdod, Ofri noticed a large number of trees painted with gouache colors and a lot of scattered waste left in the area, which included, among other things, bottles and cans of alcohol and plastic waste over a large area. According to the findings in the field, it is evident that a group of people held a place the night before a nature party in the reserve in violation of the law, which prohibits staying in the reserve during the hours of darkness, in order to allow, among other things, the wild animals that wander there a space to exist and live.

Afri documented the surface after the nature party and hurried to collect a lot of waste in order to reduce and prevent any damage to the landscape and wildlife. At the end of the work, which lasted several hours, about 5 large garbage bags were collected by Ofri.

According to Tomer Ofari, inspector of the Nature and Parks Authority in this area, “In the past, quite a few cases have already been documented and recorded in which various reptiles and rodents, and even large mammals, have died due to entanglement and suffocation from plastic waste, bottles and cans. The waste that people leave in the area is a danger of death to wildlife and injury Scenic in the territory of the reserve, where you can stay and walk along the marked paths during the day only. It is sad to see such sights caused by people who do not show the necessary responsibility, break the law and harm everyone’s nature. The nature reserves and open national parks do not have regular cleaning and supervision services and the public must find out responsibility and take the waste he produces along with it. Certainly not to harm the flora and fauna species. Meanwhile, it is important to emphasize that holding nature parties in reserved areas and national parks is prohibited by law and we will work as much as we can to eradicate this phenomenon.”

The Mevo Ashdod nature reserve is located in an open area northwest of the Ashdod interchange and covers an area of approximately 800 dunams. In the reserve there is a particularly large concentration of acacia trees as well as sycamore and eucalyptus trees. In addition, rare plant species grow in the reserve, including the scarlet iris. Among the wild animals that characterize the reserve are deer, various species of reptiles and rodents of the coastal sand areas.
