Houston Dynamo FC Secures Brazilian Defender Lucas Halter in landmark Transfer

A dynamic addition to Major League Soccer, the Houston Dynamo FC has officially signed Brazilian defender Lucas Halter from Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, the clubs announced on January 12, 2024. Halter will be added to the roster as a Designated Player, signing a contract extending through the 2029/30 season, with a club option for 2030/31, and will fill an international roster spot contingent upon receiving his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Halter will be formally introduced to the media at Houston Sports Park on Thursday, January 15, following the teamS initial preseason training session.

A Proven Track Record in Brazilian Football
Halter brings a wealth of experience from Brazil’s prestigious Série A, having made 219 appearances across four clubs: Club Athletico Paranaense (2018-2022), Goiás Esporte Clube (2022-2023), Botafogo (2024-2025), and Esporte Clube Vitória (2025). Throughout his career, the defender has demonstrated both defensive solidity and attacking contributions, registering 17 goals and three assists.
His accolades include playing a pivotal role in Botafogo’s historic 2024 season, where they secured their first-ever Copa libertadores title and a third Série A championship. He also contributed to Athletico Paranaense’s 2019 copa do Brasil victory.
Recent Successes and Leadership at Vitória
Most recently, Halter spent the 2025 season on loan at Vitória, where he showcased his leadership qualities by captaining the team in all 33 of his appearances. He enjoyed a productive campaign, scoring a career-high four league goals, including a crucial game-winning goal against Sport Club Internacional, and providing one assist.
International and Domestic Cup Experience
Beyond league play, Halter has participated in 45 matches across various international and domestic cup competitions, including the Copa Sudamericana, Copa Verde, Copa do Brasil, Supercopa Rei, and Copa do Nordeste. He was instrumental in Botafogo’s accomplished 2024 Copa Libertadores run, appearing in five of six group stage matches as the club finished tied for first in their group. He also featured in four of eight matches during Athletico Paranaense’s 2019 Copa do Brasil title run, and scored his first domestic cup goal with Goiás in the Copa Verde.
From Academy to Professional: Halter’s Career Trajectory
Halter’s journey began within the Athletico Paranaense academy system in 2016, progressing to the senior team in 2019. He made his professional debut in January 2019, featuring in a 2-0 victory against Rio Branco do Paraná in the Campeonato Paranaense, and later made his Série A debut in May 2019 against Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.
Youth International Success
The defender also represented Brazil at the youth level, participating in the 2017 CONMEBOL Sudamericano U-17 in Chile, where Brazil emerged victorious after a dominant 5-0 win over the host nation in the final. Halter started eight of the nine matches in the tournament, scoring one goal against Venezuela. He also featured in every match for Brazil at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India, helping the team reach the semifinals.
