Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement fired two missiles at a cargo ship in the Red Sea on Monday.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

“12th of February <...> The Iran-backed Houthis fired two missiles from Yemen under their control towards the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. Both missiles were launched towards the cargo ship MV Star Iris,” the command said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The ship suffered “minor damage” and the crew was not injured, CENTCOM said.

Following the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Ansar Allah warned that it would carry out attacks on Israeli territory and would not allow associated ships to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave ceases. Since mid-November last year, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
