jpnn.com – Indonesian men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana did not deny that they were nervous when they met their seniors, namely Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan in the first round of the 2024 Japan Open.

Understandably, Leo/Bagas just made their debut on the international stage after being separated from their respective partners.

Leo previously partnered with Daniel Marthin, while Bagas was Muhammad Shohibul Fikri’s duet partner.

Luckily, Leo/Bagas marked their debut with a sweet result after winning the civil war against Ahsan/Hendra with a score of 21-17, 21-10.

After the match, Bagas admitted to being nervous about meeting the senior pair Hendra/Ahsan. As a result, he and Leo played without a strategy in the first game.

However, Bagas/Leo used the half-time break to reset their strategy in the second game.

“Earlier, we were also nervous because as a new pair we had to meet a senior pair. As a new pair, we didn’t know what strategy we wanted to play. Before the first game interval, we just played hard,” said Bagas.

“However, during the break we can communicate and discuss how to play. We can be open with each other and complement each other. Alhamdulillah, even though it’s our first time playing, our cooperation on the field is already good.”
