There are numerous reasons to want to know how old your iPhone is. If you know the age of the device, you will know, for example, whether the warranty is still valid. Or if you have a used iPhone, you can find out when the first owner bought it.
If you want to find out the age of an iPhone, here’s how to do it:
Find out the iPhone age using the serial number
The easiest way to find out the age of your iPhone is through the serial number and the Apple warranty check. Every iPhone is assigned a unique number by the manufacturer, the so-called manufacturer code. This allows Apple to clearly identify each device produced and find out whether the device is still covered by the warranty.
To find out your iPhone’s serial number, do the following:
- 1. Open “Settings” on your iPhone.
- 2. Select the “General” tab and tap “Info”.
- 3. In fifth place you will find your iPhone’s serial number.
Now enter the serial number on Apple’s warranty status page. The site can be found at checkcoverage.apple.com. After you enter the number there, you will find out when your iPhone was sold and therefore how old it is. Apple also shows you on the page whether the device is still under warranty.

For iPhone 15 owners, Apple makes it easy to find out the age of the smartphone. Since iOS 17.4, users have been able to view the number of charging cycles, the production date of the device and the date of first use in the battery status settings.
