The Iris-T SLM air defense system has proven itself in Ukraine. The German army is now receiving its first example.
The German army has put its first Iris-T SLM air defense system into service in Todendorf, Schleswig-Holstein. The German government has already delivered four of these weapon systems and three related Iris-T SLS systems to Ukraine. There they have proven their worth in defending against Russian attacks with drones and cruise missiles.
The German army already has medium-range Patriot air defence systems, which are now being supplemented by Iris-T. The new weapon system is to become a central component of the European Sky Shield air defence system initiated by Germany.
A training center is currently being built in Todendorf, where Ukrainian soldiers are already being trained. In the future, it will be open to all participants in the European Sky Shield Initiative.
How the air defense system works is explained in the video above.
