Frankfurt The clock is ticking. According to plans from the economics and building ministries, the installation of new gas and oil heating systems is to be gradually banned from next year. This is provided for in a draft bill that has been causing heated debates for days.
The coalition leaders had already agreed last year that from 2024 every newly installed heating system should be operated “if possible” with 65 percent renewable energies. The FDP has now announced resistance to the plans.
So it is not yet clear that it will be the same. But one thing is certain: sooner or later, a large part of the heating systems in Germany will have to be replaced by more environmentally friendly systems – with far-reaching consequences for many property owners. The majority of Germans still heat with gas and oil heaters. So what should owners expect? And which buildings are now coming under particular pressure?
