The account of a Postbank customer is seized – wrongly. The basic error lies with the tax office, but the institute cut a bad figure as a result. It takes weeks for the account to be free again.

Katja Raschke (name changed by the editors) was flabbergasted when she returned to her job after the Easter holidays. The employer informed her that she had been seized by the tax office. “After a brief moment of shock, I suspected that it must have something to do with my ex-husband,” she tells the FAZ

She should be right. After two discussions with the executing tax office in Offenbach I, the facts of the case were clarified. Her ex-husband had accumulated tax debts. The tax office came across them because they were last taxed together in 2017.
