The education center was developed as part of the UNESCO-Huawei Tech-Enabled Open Schools for All project, currently being implemented in Egypt, Ghana and Ethiopia from 2020 to 2023.

He said: “The Open Schools program has achieved notable achievements for the education sector in Egypt, including capacity building and preparation of diverse training courses for teachers, providing many digital platforms and the establishment of the National Center for Distance Education to improve the skills of educators in Egypt.”

Technology-Enabled Open School for All (TeOSS)

In addition to launching the education center, this forum also explores best practices related to the TeOSS project. The UNESCO-Huawei TeOSS project is implemented through the cooperation of the Ministries of Education of Egypt, Ethiopia and Ghana, and is currently in the pilot phase, testing digital education platforms in these three African countries. The project also provides training on digital-related skills for teachers and students, develops policy frameworks for digital education, and evaluates the project’s effectiveness in expanding TeOSS to other countries in Africa.

For example, in Egypt, the project has provided digital skills training to 300 teachers, and a new education center will promote distance education capabilities and digital literacy for 950,000 K-12 teachers in underserved communities.

In his speech, Mr. Sobhi Tawil, Director of UNESCO’s Future of Education and Innovation Group, welcomed the participants of this forum, and praised the cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Education and the role The Ministry’s role in supporting future development.

He added that this forum is organized within the framework of Huawei’s project to support open schools and improve educational capacity through the digital environment from 2020, contributing to improving the quality of education. education, ensuring access and continuity of education systems in Egypt, Ethiopia and Ghana. The TeOSS project is designed to combine online and face-to-face learning to maximize educational outcomes, while ensuring continuity of learning in both normal conditions and times of crisis. For example, according to UNICEF, as of the end of January 2022, more than 616 million students were still affected by the total or partial closure of schools due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Building digital education capacity at the national level can help minimize disruption to learning if unpredictable situations arise.
