Huevember 2025: Arizona State Press Illustration Story

State Press Launches “Huevember” Art Challenge Following Success of “Inktober”

Following a successful month-long series of Halloween-themed sketches for the “Inktober” challenge, The State Press is introducing a new artistic endeavor for its readers: “Huevember.” While the “Huevember” challenge has gained traction across various online art communities, the color palette for this iteration will be curated by State Press illustrator Sarah Pedrini.

The new challenge builds on the momentum of “Inktober,” demonstrating a continued commitment to showcasing the creative talents within the Arizona State University community. This initiative provides a platform for artists to explore color and illustration, fostering engagement with The State Press’ visual content.

Leading the charge on the editorial side are Caitlin Hawkinson, serving as Visuals Editor, and Ava Peguese, the Multimedia Managing Editor. Hawkinson is currently completing an Animation/Illustration internship at Slapstik Comedy Entertainment, bringing professional experience to her second semester with The State Press. She previously contributed as a part-time illustrator.

Pedrini, the illustrator responsible for selecting the “Huevember” color palette, is a seventh-semester Animation major at ASU. She is also in her second semester with The State Press, supplementing her studies with practical experience. Prior to this role, Pedrini gained valuable experience through internships with the Arizona Democratic Party and the League of Women Voters of Arizona.

Supporting the visual storytelling are illustrators Aliya Carnahan and Hannah Armstrong. Carnahan is beginning her first semester with The State Press, bringing a background in mural work and diverse artistic projects throughout Arizona. Armstrong, a graphic design student, contributes illustrations while also pursuing personal client work.

Overseeing the multimedia aspects of The State Press is Matthew Marengo, the Multimedia Director. A junior studying journalism and mass communications with a minor in political science, Marengo previously served as Multimedia Managing Editor and a Full-Time Videographer. He also completed an internship with the Student Television Network.

Illustrations for both “Inktober” and “Huevember” have been edited by Hawkinson, alongside contributions from Sophie Schaeffer, Ava The Majeso Ava Pro Deed.

The State Press relies on the support of its readers to continue providing quality student journalism. Readers are encouraged to donate to help sustain the organization’s mission.
