In his new memoir Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself, Crystal Hefner, widow of the founder of Playboy, Hugh Hefner, has revealed the mistreatment of domestic and exotic animals at the Playboy Mansion. The ex-model also provided more details about this mistreatment in an interview with People.

In her book, she explained that Hugh Hefner kept two love birds in a cage inside his bathroom; These birds frequently died and were replaced without investigating the causes. Eventually, it was discovered that a metal ball in their water dispenser was stuck, causing the birds to die of thirst. Additionally, she noted that, although her husband held a zoological license that allowed her to house monkeys, peacocks, toucans and other exotic animals, the animals seemed to be depressed and showed no signs of happiness.
In one passage in the book, Crystal Hefner mentions hearing animals crying from her room, describing their calls as pleas for help. “Even with the window closed, I could hear their plaintive voices in my mind. ‘Help, help,’ they squawked and moaned, at least that’s what it seemed to me,” Crystal narrates in her book.

At the same time, in his conversation with People, Crystal He remembered that all the animals in the small zoo looked completely depressed.
“All of those animals looked so depressed and sad that when you walked past the cages you realized that none of them were happy. It was all an illusion. It’s very weird. I’m surprised. I don’t even know if I was happy, to be honest.”
