With the participation of Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, an agreement was signed in Bucharest on the supply of electricity from Azerbaijan to Hungary through the territory of Georgia and Romania through an underwater cable passing through the Black Sea. A part of the electricity received from Azerbaijan will be used by Hungary for domestic needs, and a part will be exported to neighboring countries.

“The agreement on electricity supply between Hungary, Romania, Azerbaijan and Georgia will be an important step in the direction of strengthening the energy security of Europe, which needs new sources of energy,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijarto.

Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary stated that his country “wants to receive as many types of energy as possible, from as many sources and via as many routes as possible.”

“In this regard, Hungary attaches great importance to the upcoming supplies of electricity from Azerbaijan,” said Szijarto.

Already today, within the framework of the signing ceremony of the agreement, the Foreign Minister of Hungary once again emphasized the importance of the supply of electricity from Azerbaijan for them, noting that a “unique project” is being implemented, they will receive “environmentally clean, green electricity” through the underwater cable stretching thousands of kilometers.
