A passenger who intervened during an alleged attempted murder on a train in Cambridgeshire has recounted the terrifying moments he confronted the attacker, sustaining important injuries in the process. Passengers Flee as Attacker Brandishes Knife
The ordeal began when passengers started running through the train, shouting about a man wielding a knife. One passenger, a Nottingham Forest football fan, described the scene as chaotic, with peopel scrambling for safety. Many passengers headed towards the buffet car, seeking refuge in the limited space available.
“I saw him coming towards me – a guy with a rucksack and he’s obviously got somthing in there,” the passenger recalled.”Everyone’s gone towards the buffet carriage, and that is on the verge of being full up. There’s no one else getting in there. I wasn’t even going to bother pushing to get in. There’s young women and they need to get them in.”
A Courageous Intervention and Violent Struggle
Rather of joining the rush to the buffet car, the passenger made a conscious decision to assess the situation and secure a key access point. He attempted to lock a door to safeguard others when the attacker turned his attention toward him.
“I confronted this guy, because I’ve got to make sure that the door’s locked and I’ve looked around to save a bit of time. But then he started, he pulled this thing out. It was an over-large blade thing,” he explained. “He’s gone for me and there was a tussle in the arms with him and that’s where my hand,the fingers are really bad,four cuts through them,sliced. And then he raised it and must have caught me when I was ducking and diving and must have caught me on the head.”
The passenger sustained deep cuts to his hand and a head wound during the struggle. he currently has his left hand heavily bandaged and visible blood remained in his hair following the incident. Anthony Williams is accused of attempting to murder passengers on the train.

Despite being hailed as a hero, the passenger was quick to deflect the praise, emphasizing the collective effort of those involved in responding to the crisis.
“It’s lovely to hear. But I’d say there are other heroes like the police and the guys that got me off the train, and the ambulances and the hospital staff, they’re probably the real heroes. And the train guy that’s really badly injured. So, you know, it’s a big shout to call someone a hero, but it’s nice,” he said.
He also highlighted his determination to ensure the safety of others,specifically mentioning his efforts to allow another passenger to secure the buffet car door.”That door still wasn’t shut behind me, because I could still see him struggling to close it. So until I knew it was closed I wasn’t moving away from it.”
