The structure within which this couple takes refuge, and which is somewhat reminiscent of the frame for a tipi (the traditional hut of the North American Indians) or for a tent, is made of a material made from mushrooms.
The material has been designed as an alternative, in the construction sector, to less sustainable materials.
For now, the singular material and the no less singular constructions made with it are only experimental. But Romy Kaiser’s team at the University of Newcastle in the UK, who have carried out this experimental work, hope that one day its use will become practical.
