The Korean men’s Olympic team, led by coach Hwang Seon-hong, showed strong confidence in advancing to the Olympic finals for the 10th consecutive time.
According to the Korea Football Association on the 4th, KFA’s monthly technical report ‘Onside’ conducted a survey of Olympic players in its April issue, and all respondents answered that their goal is to ‘win the (Under-23) Asian Cup.’
This survey was conducted on members who participated in the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship held in Saudi Arabia last March and members who participated in the final qualifiers for the U-23 Asian Cup and Paris Olympics. There are a total of 20 respondents.
First, when asked about their goal for the U-23 Asian Cup, all respondents said “winning.” Seon-Hong Hwang will participate in the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup to be held in Qatar starting on the 16th.
Korea must secure at least third place in this competition, in which 16 countries participate, to receive a direct ticket to the finals. The Olympic team was placed in Group B along with Japan, UAE, and China. It is expected to be a difficult journey starting from the group stage. However, the fact that they expect to win as their goal without exception shows the special will and confidence of the players participating in this competition.
When asked who they would most like to beat, the answer was unanimous. All respondents chose ‘Japan’ as their sure-to-win opponent.
Japan is an opponent of revenge. Korea lost 0-3 to Japan in the quarterfinals of the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup. The answer expressed his determination to recover his pride, which had been damaged by losing to Japan in the last tournament, and to rise to the top of Asia again.
Goalkeeper Kim Jeong-hoon (Jeonbuk), who played in the WAFF Championship final, mentioned the symbolism of the Korea-Japan match, saying, “There is no need to say anything else.” Lee Young-jun (Gimcheon Managing Director), who scored a goal in the final of the same tournament, emphasized, “I want to beat Japan more than any other team.”
In addition, it was confirmed that Park Ji-sung is the favorite domestic player (including retired players) of the Olympic team players. 7 out of 19 respondents (36.8%) chose Park Ji-sung.

Son Heung-min (Tottenham), Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), and Hwang Seon-hong tied for second place with two players each.
As for their favorite overseas league, 17 out of 19 people chose the English Premier League, showing an overwhelming preference, and 2 people chose the German Bundesliga.
In addition, in the multiple-response question asking what soccer content they are most interested in watching, the answer ‘KFA inside cam, club cam, and other team-created videos’ ranked first with 11 people. Next, there were 9 players each who chose ‘Soccer Documentary’ and ‘YouTube Video Made by a Former Soccer Player’.
