Even in challenging conditions, drivers can expect around 70 miles of electric range. Utilizing “EV+” mode ensures the car remains in electric-only operation until the battery reaches 20%, at which point the engine seamlessly kicks in to maintain charge.
Style and Substance: A Surprisingly Affordable Package
The Omoda 9 isn’t just about range; it also makes a strong visual statement. Positioned as a mid-size SUV,it rivals models like the BMW iX3 and Porsche macan Electric in size,offering 660 litres of boot space and comfortable seating for five.Starting at £44,990, the Omoda 9 is surprisingly affordable, presenting a value proposition that undercuts comparable models from established luxury brands. Inside, the cabin features a clean design dominated by two 12.3-inch screens – one for the driver’s details and another as a central touchscreen. A standard head-up display and a comprehensive suite of features come standard, minimizing the need for costly optional extras. While the interior materials don’t fully match the exterior’s premium aesthetic,with some plastic elements noticeable,the overall impression is positive. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though the native operating system can be somewhat fiddly to navigate. A 14-speaker Sony audio system delivers impressive sound quality, with localized audio options for the driver.
Driving Dynamics: Power and Refinement
The Omoda 9’s “Super Hybrid System” offers three distinct driving modes. in EV mode,the dual electric motors provide silent,emission-free propulsion.HEV mode utilizes both the petrol engine and electric motors, optimizing power and efficiency. During testing,the vehicle demonstrated impressive performance. Eco mode provides a pleasant driving experience,while Normal mode unlocks a significant boost in power,enabling a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 4.9 seconds with 442bhp (449PS).Sport mode offers a subtle enhancement to the driving dynamics, though it doesn’t deliver the transformative experience found in some other performance SUVs. The adaptive cruise control, while present, lacks steering correction or lane centring, feeling somewhat rudimentary. A unique safety feature prevents the car from being driven without a fastened seatbelt.
