Hytale’s developers have unveiled Chapter 1 updates, including a magic system, mod support, and new world events, with the expansion set for release in 2-3 months, as confirmed by Hytale’s official blog and PC Gamer.
Hytale’s developers have laid out a roadmap for Chapter 1, a major update that introduces RPG-style mechanics, mod support, and new world events, with the expansion expected to launch in 2-3 months. The update marks a pivotal shift for the sandbox RPG, which has been in early access, according to Simon, Game Director of Hytale and founder of Hypixel. To be transparent, there aren’t many reasons to come back and play Hytale right now,
he admitted in a recent blog post, acknowledging the game’s unfinished state while outlining its future direction.
Chapter 1 Features: Magic, Mod Support, and New Mechanics
Chapter 1 introduces a magic-based combat system, a departure from Hytale’s original focus on crafting and survival. The update also includes a Mod Browser, set to arrive with Update 6 in the next few weeks, alongside Spectator Mode and Hardcore Mode. Developers emphasized that some features, like real transparency and carryable objects, may ship ahead of schedule if the underlying tech is ready. We’ll grow that list over time, keep iterating each chapter, and start tying these systems together,
said Simon in a Hytale blog post, which detailed the game’s evolving design philosophy.
The update also expands Hytale’s content pipelines, with new tools like the Encounter Manager, a system for coordinating boss fights and dynamic encounters. This tech, already available in the pre-release, allows designers to create content without rewriting engine code. Encounters are authored as content instead of engine code, so our designers can keep making them, and so can you,
the blog explained. This shift aims to accelerate development, enabling the team to iterate faster on future chapters.
Goblin Breach and World Events: A New Chapter in Hytale’s Development
The goblin faction itself is designed to be chaotic yet purposeful, with elites like the Feastmaster that summon reinforcements mid-fight and a shop-owning friendly goblin. Their tech is janky on purpose, and they’re just a fun faction to start Early Access with,
the blog explained. The Forgotten Temple, a hub for Early Access progression, will evolve as new chapters release, serving as a central point for players to access Chapter 1’s content and future updates.

Timeline and Future Plans: What’s Next for Hytale?
PC Gamer’s coverage highlights a detailed release timeline, with Chapter 1 arriving in 2-3 months, followed by Spectator and Hardcore Modes in 2-3 weeks. The Mod Browser and moving platforms will also launch with Update 6. Long-term plans include a crafting rework for Chapter 2, volumetric clouds, and an overhaul of the Hytale Asset Editor. We have a lot of work to do to realize the game’s potential, and this is just the start of that journey,
Simon said in the Hytale blog post, which also teased a new server-side custom UI system based on NoesisGUI
and machinima tools
for creating trailers and content.

The developers have also announced plans for minigames and party games, with over a dozen in development. We’ll grow that list over time, keep iterating each chapter, and start tying these systems together,
Simon reiterated, emphasizing the game’s iterative approach. Despite the ambitious roadmap, the team acknowledges the work ahead.
Hytale’s progress reflects a shift from its past. After splitting off from Riot Games, the project was continued by Hypixel. The game’s early access launch generated significant preorders, but its incomplete state has left players waiting. With Chapter 1’s release, the team aims to rebuild trust, offering a clearer path forward for the game’s evolving vision.
