Hannover, Seoul The fast 5G data radio is to have a new application in robotics. The South Korean Hyundai Group uses it to network its service robots. Hyundai and the mobile phone provider Vodafone want to present a cooperation at the Hanover Fair next week, as the companies announced on Friday.

The car manufacturer Hyundai also wants to gain a foothold in the robot business. This includes automated machines that can, for example, bring snacks and drinks to hotels or exhibition halls or clean surfaces.

The idea is for the robots to exchange information quickly via 5G radio. For example, they should divide areas among themselves or warn each other about incidents such as an overturned mop bucket.

In principle, the machines could also exchange information via WLAN. In addition to the high transmission speeds, the advantages of 5G radio include extremely short response times, thanks to which signals are transmitted with practically no delay and remote control of machines is also possible.
