Martha Janeth Mancera assumed the position of Attorney General of the Nation in charge, in compliance with the legal mandate, as of February 13, 2024.
In his first intervention, Mancera reiterated his commitment to the rule of law, the impartial application of the law and the fulfillment of the constitutional mission of investigating and criminally prosecuting crimes in Colombian territory.
He highlighted the importance of harmonious work and constructive dialogue with other State institutions.as well as respect for the powers of each of the branches of public power, as fundamental axes for the fulfillment of the objectives of the Attorney General’s Office.
“The Strategic Direction 2020 – 2024 brought very important results to the citizens and must continue to be implemented until the new prosecutor appointed by the honorable Supreme Court of Justice establishes her new roadmap. In that sense, itinerancy, the concentration of investigative activities and articulation will continue to be our institutional paths,” said the Attorney General in charge.

Regarding the internal structure of the Prosecutor’s Office, Aníbal Arbeláez Betancourt was appointed as head of the Special Investigation Unit (UEI), and Yui Ángela Morales Espinosa as Executive Director. Mancera expressed her confidence in these legal professionals, highlighting her commitment to the promotion and defense of human rights.
In addition, she reaffirmed her commitment to respecting the integrity, autonomy and independence of the Supreme Court of Justice in the process of appointing the new Attorney General of the Nation, and was willing to facilitate the process of joining with the new head.
“We will not let our guard down in the fulfillment of the functions that the Constitution has entrusted to the Prosecutor’s Office, the investigative strategies will be sustained, the prioritized crimes must continue to be clarified and the right of access to the administration of justice must be guaranteed. This is a Prosecutor’s Office that will deliver results to the communities on the streets and in the territories,” he concluded.
