The former mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, announced at the extraordinary session of the Council of Elders that depriving him of his mandate was a political reprisal.
“But, apart from what has been said, there is another very important motive. If you remember, at the meeting of the Council of Elders in December of last year, I announced that after sharply increasing the price of the red lines, this government will start the process of increasing the transport fare. And literally at the first regular session of this year, the CP will present the project on doubling the price of public transport.
Moreover, again without any adequate calculation, without logical reasoning. According to that decision, the price of transport will be higher than in a number of developed cities in Europe and the United States. And this is why they want to neutralize me before this absurd decision, knowing my position on the increase in the price of transport, which I expressed very clearly 11 years ago.
We will have an opportunity to talk in detail about this disgraceful project of raising the price of transport, but I will say right away, dear ones, you will not succeed. Even if the KP can pass the decision in the meeting of the council of elders on the 13th of the month, it will still not be able to make it a reality. Not because this or that party will interfere, but the people of Yerevan will not allow it. You will not digest this unquote “reform” of increasing the price of transport, friends, I promise you that.
And like eleven years ago, now we will resort to all means of civil disobedience: we will refuse to pay the prices you want, we will take people to places with our cars. So, as during our previous struggle for 150 drams. And by the way, I call on Alen Simonyan and Nikol Pashinyan to come and join the uprising organized by me and my friends in 2013, so come and join now. And if at that time they were in their personal modest cars, now they can come in “S” class Mercedes and BMWs. Yes, bring the cars of your friends, there will be a lot of work.
