“I don’t think there is still a macho vision in beauty pageants”

by time news

Nerea Casas Yáñez (22 years old) is one of the two representatives – along with another young woman from Riaxo – that Galicia will send to the Miss Grand Spain contest, which will be held between the 19th and 26th of this month in Tenerife.

The Cedeiresa combines her candidacy with her work in the human resources department of an important jewelry store in A Coruña with the study of no more and no less than three master’s degrees –Digital Marketing, MBA and People Management and Management–.

The pageant can be followed on the Miss Grand Spain Youtube channel.

How did it start in this world? Where does your interest come from?
I have been in this world since 2016, when I went to the first casting here in Galicia. The minimum age to participate is 17 years old and I didn’t have them yet. I went the same way in the company of my parents. From then on it was a dream that I had from a very young age and something that I dedicated so many years to it I couldn’t leave halfway.

It is the sixth time that it has been presented, right?
Yes. I’ve always really liked the world of fashion, although professionally I’m focused on the world of people. Since I was little I was always a super fan of Victoria’s Secret and I watched all the shows when they were on TV. I love the world of fashion, clothing, new trends… I am a faithful follower of how many fashion weeks there are.

Nerea Casas will wear the sash for Miss Grand Costa Gallega I Cedida

He currently works in the field of human resources and also studies at the same time. How do you balance everything?
taking time away from sleep [risas]. Basically I get up very early. I get up every day at half past five in the morning, to get to all the chores I have to do during the day, and I go to bed, hopefully, at half past twelve. Now that the exam period for the master’s degrees is over, I’m a little more relaxed, but last month was very intense. I think I explored my physical limits. But there is nothing left. The last push remains and don’t let it falter!

How does Miss Grand Spain work? There are several days of tests…
We are going to Tenerife for a week. we arrived on sunday [día 19], where the reception will be held with the official photos of all the candidates and at night, in a ceremony, the bands are delivered. In my case, that of Miss Grand Costa Gallega. During the week we have catwalk classes, make-up, rehearsals for the final show, a personal interview with the jury… There are also a series of scheduled visits, such as the Tenerife Town Hall and Loro Park. Already on Thursday the competition in swimsuit takes place. Friday is the preliminary phase, a pregala. And on Saturday will be the grand final, where Miss Grand Spain will be crowned, who will be the representative, throughout the month of October, in Vietnam, in the Miss Grand International pageant.

What I would like is to undertake. I am trying to train myself to start my own company

He is 22 years old, he is very young. How does she see herself in the future? Where would she like to be, for example, ten years from now?
What I would like is to undertake, to be an entrepreneur. I am trying to train myself to have a 360 vision of what the business world is, because I am still not clear about what field, exactly. I am clear about the place, which is A Coruña, because it is where I currently reside for work reasons.

But do you like the world of fashion or human resources more?
I think I would throw more for human resources. If I went for the fashion part, it would be more to work as a model, but for example, managing people in the world of fashion is not something I’m passionate about.

And what is the reason?
There are two visions of a company, internal or external. In this case, I like to be the one on the catwalk, the one facing the cameras.

He currently resides in A Coruña but he is from Cedeira, where he returns whenever he can. For someone who does not know the villa, which corner do you prefer?
San Andrés de Teixido, who was dead and not alive. And I also prefer the Sonreiras cove, which is a place unknown to many people, since only those from the town know how to get there. And that now there is a very well done passageway, with the entire area reformed. It is an impressive place; It’s like our little Caribbean.

Machismo always hovers over the world of beauty pageants. Do you think that feminism has managed to influence them in recent times?
Completely. Beauty pageants have evolved a lot in this sense, so that you are no longer looking only for a pretty face and a 90-60-90 body. Now a woman leader, upright, educated, with culture, who has a message to give to society, is also valued. Each of the colleagues who are going to compete soon in Tenerife have our training, we are independent, applied, with our culture and our own criteria. I don’t think at all that that macho vision that existed in beauty pageants still exists.
