Funds to satisfy the demands of 91 farmers who have exceeded the €280,000 ceiling are available, the government is looking for a legal way to distribute them

The Ministry of Health has requested a 30% salary increase in the hail agency, and a 20% increase in other structures.

In order to satisfy the requests of 91 farmers who did not receive 100% of the state support under the Ukrainian aid, 44 million BGN is needed. The money is available, we are looking for a legal form to give it to.

This was reported this morning to New TV the Minister of Agriculture Kiril Vatev. He said that the specified millions are outside of the additional payment that will be distributed because of the increase in the ceiling of this aid from 250,000 to 280,000 euros. The ceiling was increased after many negotiations on the part of Bulgaria, the minister specified. He was categorical that it is impossible to drop the state support limit according to European rules.

The protests on Thursday of this week were precisely about dropping the aid ceiling on Ukrainian aid.

“However, you ran away,” the host of the show pointed out. “I haven’t run yet,” countered the minister. “But I see what the dialogue abilities are – none.”

He recalled that the previous day, the chairman of the agricultural commission in the National Assembly (Desislava Taneva) expelled from the hall Velin Georgiev – head of a greenhouse association, and Boyko Sinapov – of a sheep breeder.

“These are people who don’t leave the MFA building,” said the minister and added that it has been like this for years.

“Let them give the declarations so I can see how much they produced, sold and what taxes have paid,” Vatev demanded. “It will come out that they have no sales. I want to see the declarations of Velin Georgiev and Boyko Sinapov,” continued the minister. And he indicated that he was ready to produce a report for the last five years on the taxes paid by his company.

The Minister of Agriculture categorically and angrily refuted statements from the press conference of the protestors that imported meat is consumed in Bulgaria, which is brought in deep frozen and with which food for dogs and cats is produced in Europe.

“This is absurd! It’s off!” declared the minister and clarified that the processors are subjected to too many checks for such a statement to be true. “There must be some measure and standard of conduct” and, according to the minister, such claims should be attacked in court, as they harm entire industries. Vatev stated that he will check whether it is legally possible for the ministry to file a lawsuit against what was said at the press conference.

According to official data of the BABH, 329 cow farms and 819 sheep farms closed in 2022. And in 2023, the numbers will be 323 and 305, respectively, Vatev cites.

Regarding the statement from the press conference that livestock breeders mass slaughter livestock, Kiril Vatev pointed to other data. From January 1 to November 20, 2022, 30,345 animals were slaughtered, compared to 28,000 during the same period this year. “They are few!” he said, specifying that these animals were raised for meat.

According to him, Bulgaria is among the countries that provide the most funds to support farmers.

Regarding the announced readiness of the Anti-Hail Agency for protests due to low salaries – average net 760 BGN – the minister said that he submitted a request to increase the salary in the agency by 30%, and in the other structures of the MOH by 20%.
