Time.news Interview: Celebrating Humor and Resilience in the Face of Change with Katerina Didaskalou
Editor: Welcome, Katerina. It’s a pleasure to have you here today to discuss your experiences in the world of acting, notably your time working with the late Manousos Manousakis on “Touch of Psyche.” Let’s dive right in!
Q: Can you share your initial thoughts when you learned you were pregnant during the filming of “Touch of Psyche”?
Katerina Didaskalou: Thank you for having me! Initially, I felt a bit apprehensive. When I shared the news with my colleagues, the typical reaction was often one of concern, as if being pregnant would hinder my ability to perform. Though, Manousos’ response was refreshing. He laughed and said, ”What a nice charm this is, kid. It’s going to break the line.” His understanding nature turned what could have been a barrier into an possibility for creativity.
Q: How did Manousos Manousakis adapt the role to accommodate your pregnancy?
Katerina Didaskalou: He was incredibly supportive and thoughtful.because I didn’t look pregnant untill I was seven months along, we continued shooting scenes as if everything was normal. And when he would notice little changes,he would joke and say,”I understand now why you got pregnant – so that I could only get close to you.” His humor made the whole experience enjoyable, and I appreciated how he made adjustments without making me feel like a burden.
Q: What are some behind-the-scenes moments you can share that highlight Manousos’ personality?
Katerina Didaskalou: manousos had an impeccable sense of humor. I remember one day when we were filming a particularly serious scene and he made a funny face from behind the camera. It broke the tension completely, allowing us to laugh and bond as a cast. Moments like those made “Touch of Psyche” more than just a project; it became a shared experience filled with warmth and laughter.
Q: What can you tell us about the industry’s perception of pregnant actresses, based on your experiences?
Katerina Didaskalou: Unfortunately, there’s still a stigma in our industry. When you share that you’re pregnant, many perceive it as a liability. Though, I believe it’s essential to shift that narrative. Pregnancy is a part of life, and it should not curtail a woman’s career in the arts.with the right support, like I had with manousos, pregnancy can offer new dimensions to a character, enriching the storyline rather than hindering it.
Q: What advice would you give to pregnant actresses who may be uncertain about continuing their careers?
Katerina Didaskalou: My advice is to advocate for yourself. Don’t be afraid to communicate your needs; good directors, like Manousos, will understand and help you adapt. Surround yourself with supportive colleagues and remember that your unique experiences can bring depth to your performances. Keep pushing the envelope; your journey can inspire others in the industry.
Q: Lastly, reflecting on your journey with “Touch of Psyche” and the significant loss of Manousos, what message would you like to convey to your audience?
Katerina Didaskalou: Life is unpredictable, much like the industry we work in. Manousos taught us to find humor in every situation and to embrace each chapter of our lives fully. In his memory, I urge everyone to cherish laughter and support one another, especially during times of change.Cherish those you work with and create art that resonates, regardless of the challenges that come your way.
Editor: Thank you, Katerina, for sharing your heartfelt experiences and insights. Your story serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of humor and adaptability in the face of change, particularly in the entertainment industry.
