Kochi – A youth was arrested in Kalur Stadium area with nearly 100 grams of MDMA (Methylene Dioxy Methamphetamine). Haroon Sultan (22) was arrested by the anti-terrorist squad and the Palarivattam police at CM Madavoor’s house in Edappally Kunnampuram. MDMA was hidden in the scooter.
The suspect who ran away was caught on a whim. The police said that the accused was the one who took large quantities of MDMA and sold it to the needy in Kochi. The scooter that brought the drug was also taken into custody.
Based on secret information, anti-terrorist squad members reached the Kalur Stadium area in search of Haroon at half past nine. Without breaking the routine, Haroon reached the place in search of customers on a red scooter. The squad members who kept Haroon under surveillance approached him on the pretense of being in need.
A failed attempt to escape was made when it was certain that he would be caught. Haroon admitted to officers that he was in possession of MDMA. Then the bike was opened and inspected. The police said that this intoxicating drug is addictive even if it is used once.
In the international market, the price per kilogram is lakhs. Around Rs 5 lakh worth of drug was seized from the accused. Possession of half a gram of MDMA is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. According to the police, Haroon has been dealing for more than a year. Meanwhile, Haroon told the police that he does not use drugs.
