The singer Rocío Saiz has denounced in social networks that during his performance at the LGBTI+ Pride celebration of Murciathe police stopped his show after taking off his shirt in one of his songs. “They wouldn’t let me continue if I didn’t get dressed. Either I put on my shirt or I was handcuffed,” the vocalist recounted. Saiz recalled that she has been showing her breasts for “ten years” in the same song. In a video posted on Twitter, she can be seen as members of the event organization ask her to dress as her again, and they wrap her with a rainbow flag to cover her breasts.

After the warning from the agents, she decided to put on the garment and finish the concert “out of respect for the public, and when I went downstairs the national police officer asked me for my documentation,” the singer pointed out,

At that moment, the public and the organization mediated between the police and the singer: “Mane and Any -Saiz’s companions- have not been allowed to enter the dressing room because of our things if they did not speak with the inspector. Book coercion. I I have denied, obviously”, the vocalist specified.

The singer has recounted that an “inspector” went to look for her on the street to handcuff her, and told her that “she had broken I don’t know how many laws” and that he opened “a police report”. As the vocalist has pointed out, the agent accused her of not knowing what “work” is because “surely she had never worked”.

After sharing the incident, Saiz has also commented through his networks that the laws for which the police report will reach him and that he is supposed to have breached are “exaltation of order, exhibitionism, contempt for authority. And I suppose that of homosexuality and lazy and thugs who are active again”.

Saiz asked the agent if he would be reporting her in the event that it was a man: “He answered me emphatically no. Because if a man does it, it is not illegal.” The vocalist has assured that she is “ever closer to leaving music. To stop exposing my body and to leave everything. Because I don’t deserve it.”

“A Dangerous Situation”

Sergio Ramos, a Murcian lawyer and former councilor of the Murcia City Council who was present during the altercation, has indicated in statements to La Opinión de Murcia, from the Grupo Prensa Ibérica, that cultural shows “are not subject to municipal ordinances” such as those that regulate the exhibitionism. “It is legal and political madness: in a museum or in the cinema you have nudes everywhere. Artistic interpretation is not regulated in the same way.” The lawyer has pointed out that in the event that the agents had any problem with the show, the responsibility fell on the Murcia City Council, that is, the organizers.

“It doesn’t make sense that in the middle of the concert the policemen rebuked the singer and created a dangerous situation, with about a thousand attendees and around six policemen.” Ramos has indicated that if the situation had worsened, he should have called the National Police, and that local agents were “skipping their powers.” The lawyer has expressed solidarity with the singer through social networks and has offered to help at the judicial level. “I hope that the Murcia Local Police will open an investigation and sanction the agent responsible for this unjustified act.

another similar incident

This is the second time that Rocío Saiz has been involved in the same controversy in the Region. The first was at the 2018 B-Side festival, which is held in Molina de Segura. The uncovering of that year also caused a wave of indignation in the PP of the town, who described it as “a disrespectful and erotic show”. At that time, Saiz’s group, Las Chiller, defended that “nobody pays attention to men who play nudes, or to men who use women as sexual objects on stage “.
