District Collector Prabhushankar said, “Roads in the areas where there are toll plazas are not maintained properly. As a result, there is a high risk of accidents in those areas. In this regard, as the Chairman of the Committee at several meetings of the Road Safety Committee held at the district level, I continued to advise on the safety measures to be taken to maintain the roads properly in the areas where the toll booths are located, to set up towering electric lights and to put up warning banners for motorists.
However, as no steps have been taken to maintain the roads properly so far, a notice has been sent to the National Highways Project Manager requesting that the report be submitted within 10 days. Failure to respond within 10 days will result in a recommendation to the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to stop levying tolls at the toll plaza and to abolish the toll, “he warned.
