This Wednesday’s meeting Iberia with the unions to try revoke the strike of handling workers‘ (ground handling service) for the next January 5, 6, 7 and 8 is over whitout dealalthough a new one has been scheduled for tomorrow, according to what sources close to the negotiation have told EFE.

This strike call has caused the cancellation of 444 flights, affecting more than 45,600 passengersalthough the Iberia group (Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum) has already provided a solution to 92% of them, relocating them to other flights, dates or times, or refunding their tickets.

The strike is called by the unions CCOO y UGTas well as by USEafter Iberia lost the ‘handling’ service at several of the main Spanish airports in the tender failed by the airport manager Aena in September, and the negotiations to carry out ‘autohandling’ at them ended without an agreement.

The meeting lasted nearly four hours and after it the Iberia group regretted the lack of agreement with the unions calling for the strike, recalling that before it takes place, simply by being called has altered many people’s travels.

In addition, he points out that it has affected the more than 90 airlines that Iberia Airport Services serves and that have been forced to cancel and modify flights.

Iberia, which is part of the IAG group to which British Airways also belongs, has reiterated that the strike has no justificationsince all the jobs and social benefits of the workers who will now have to go to other companies, after Iberia loses the handling service at several airports, are guaranteed by subrogation.

The airline group has stated that “all jobs are guaranteed by subrogation, so there is no destruction of employment or elimination of jobs.”

Likewise, he points out that salary is guaranteed based on the last 12 monthsalso the annual working day and vacation days of that period, as well as the seniority of the worker, the same type of contract and work group, the salary review established in the operator or sector agreements, the acquired rights over the use of the plane tickets and pension plans.

However, the UGT union has indicated that in this new meeting of the company with the Intercenter Committee the company has only put on the table its absolute refusal to carry out ‘autohandling’‘ (provision of the service to itself by the company), hiding behind a competitive differential.

In the opinion of UGT, with this the company disguises “its intention to subrogate and leave without alternatives all the staff at the affected airports, feeding more and more the theory that the results of the Aena tenders have not been the result of coincidence and are the beginning of a hatched plan to put an end to Iberia’s business.

He has indicated that, despite this, together with CCOO, he has sent a formal letter to the company to resume conversations and avoid conflict.

The USO union has also said that Iberia has not made the slightest effort to reach an agreement at this afternoon’s meeting and pointed out that the company has limited itself to explaining that it keeps the oldest and most expensive workers if it does partial subrogation, while insisting that ‘autohandling’ is not viable. .

Iberia, for its part, has indicated that it keeps its hand extended and is open to dialogue before, during and after the strike.

The group has also reported that it continues working to relocate travelers affected by the strike for whom it has not yet given a solution according to the existing possibilities, since the dates of the strikes, just after Christmas, are complex, due to the high factor of flight occupancy.

However, customers who wish to do so can still request your changes through the Iberia websitefrom the travel agencies where they purchased the ticket or from the company’s Customer Service Center.

Iberia has reinforced the staff at this center, although it recognizes that it is possible that users will encounter a longer waiting time than usual.
