Idea: Wuppertal partnership with Ukraine city

The “Working Group of Town Twinning Associations of Wuppertal” has now collected 9,218 euros in donations for the Ukraine. The money was handed over to Diakonie, which operates refugee accommodation.

The sum will flow directly into the emergency shelters for refugees from the Ukraine in order to make them more comfortable and child-friendly and to expand the range of play and leisure opportunities. A play and meeting corner, a seesaw group and the purchase of board games and school supplies are planned.

“It is particularly important for the often traumatized children and young people who have had to leave their homeland, relatives and friends to expand the offer in order to convey new joy and confidence through attractive employment and encounter opportunities,” says Cornelia-Maria Schott , Managing Director of the Wuppertal Diakonie.

As part of the donation handover, the representatives of the Wuppertal town twinning associations also informed that talks are underway to examine and possibly prepare a partnership with a Ukrainian municipality. Initially, this should not be about a classic town twinning, but about providing project support for reconstruction.
