In a significant operation, the IDF forces raided the family home of Saleh al-Aaruri, the current deputy chairman of Hamas, in the village of Aarura in the Ramallah area this morning. The raid revealed a sign with the Israeli flag, declaring the house as the former headquarters of Abu al-Nimr from the Shin Bet – Israel’s internal security service, according to sources.

Al-Aaruri has held the position of Hamas’ deputy chairman since 2017 and is known for his key role in promoting the terrorist infrastructure in the West Bank. As the main axis connecting Hamas with the resistance camp, he maintains close ties with Hezbollah and Iran, with his activities based mainly in Lebanon.

His involvement with Hamas dates back to 1990 when he was recruited into the organization’s military wing. Al-Aaruri was responsible for establishing the movement’s military infrastructure in the West Bank, working closely with Hamas officials in “Hatus” and the Gaza Strip. However, his activities led to his arrest, and he was imprisoned between 1992 and 2007.

During his time in an Israeli prison, al-Aaruri emerged as one of Hamas’ leaders among inmates, even learning the Hebrew language. Despite obtaining his undergraduate degree while incarcerated in 1995, he was arrested again a few weeks after his release in 2007 for resuming his military activities within Hamas.

Eventually, al-Aaruri reached an agreement with Israel in April 2010, which required him to leave the West Bank and stay outside the territories of the Palestinian Authority for three years. He moved to Jordan and then settled in Damascus before eventually fleeing to Turkey, where he became the head of Hamas’ state headquarters, backed by President Erdogan. Today, he primarily operates from Lebanon.

Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed al-Aaruri’s threats to Israel during a cabinet meeting last August, emphasizing that those who organize terrorism will face severe consequences. “It’s not just that he’s in hiding; whoever organizes terrorism will pay the full price,” stated Netanyahu.

The recent raid serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against terrorism and Israel’s determination to dismantle the infrastructure that poses a threat to its security and citizens. As tension remains high in the region, the IDF’s actions reaffirm its commitment to safeguarding the nation.
