With their populations aging and shrinking rapidly, the powers of the Far East are facing the first symptoms of a demographic crisis that is difficult to solve. As the life expectancy of their citizens lengthens and the number of births shrinks, China, Japan and South Korea are facing a crisis whose socioeconomic impact will have unpredictable consequences. In the long run, this dynamic threatens to make their societies more aged and dependent, as well as less productive and innovative.
