Hydropolitics in Central Asia. The water business in a zero sum game.- Ana Gómez Adeva

The Central Asian region, made up of five republics whose borders date back to the Soviet era, is characterized by the unequal distribution of water resources, following a scheme in which countries with abundant water reserves lack hydrocarbons and vice versa. The logic behind the structuring seems to condemn the actors involved to a cooperation that, however, has proven unviable in national rhetoric.

This study addresses the main risks faced by this area, emphasizing the geostrategic value of water, while analyzing the factors underlying the current hydropolitical impasse in which Central Asia is immersed, trying to determine if it is due to scarcity. of the resource or its deficient exploitation.
