Sahel-Iberoamerica, a new key link in the geopolitics of drugs?.- Lucía Rodríguez Arias
The Sahel, a vast and unknown region that acts as the interconnection nucleus between the Maghreb and the southern African countries, is home to legal and illegal trade routes, with a millenary past. For these same reasons, today, thousands of tons of drugs are transported with the aim of reaching the different global drug consumers, highlighting among these the market of the European continent. After the lack of state control in the different Sahelian nations and, on the contrary, a presence of terrorist and criminal organizations taking over the space, the Ibero-American cartels saw the perfect opportunity in the region to thus expand their business. Since then, there has been a symbiosis between Latin America and the Sahel, with the latter playing an important role in the geopolitics of drugs. A final analysis articulates this document.
