Ignacio Redondo, legal director of Caixabank, dies in an accident

The director of Caixabank’s Legal Department, Ignacio Redondo, passed away this Saturday night after a motorcycle accident in Formentera, from which he has not been able to recover. A 47-year-old State lawyer (Granada, 1976), Redondo took command of the legal department of the Catalan bank in 2010.

Graduated in Law from the CEU San Pablo de Valencia (1994-1999), Redondo decided to start his professional career in the public sector. He applied to become a state attorney (he passed first time and was number one in his class) and practiced for four years at the Ministry of Justicein charge of labor, criminal and administrative litigation procedures.

He moved to Catalonia in 2006 when he was appointed secretary of the Regional Economic Administrative Court of Catalonia (Tearc). This body, under the Ministry of Finance and Public Function, resolves the economic-administrative claims that are presented against the different Administrations.

In 2007 Redondo left the position to become the general secretary of the Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT) replacing Jaime de Almenar -today a partner of Clifford Chance-, where he met the guts of the Spanish telecommunications sector in a historical moment. He spent three years in that position until 2010, when he left the public sector to join La Caixa as Director of Legal Advice, under the presidency of Isidro Fainé He made the leap to CaixaBank when La Caixa created its own bank as part of the restructuring of the savings banks.

Since 2019, he was a director of CaixaBank Payments & Consumer. In addition, since 2010, he was a director of CaixaBank Wealth Management Luxembourg, ImaginersGen, CaixaBank Operational Services, and Building Center, as well as a joint administrator of CaixaBank Notas Minoristas, and secretary of the board of directors of various group subsidiaries, including CaixaBank Asset Management.

Was teacher Associate of Administrative Law at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona between 2008 and 2011 and was part of the Business Management program (SEP-AMP) at ESADE.
