The Madras High Court has banned four music distribution companies from using the songs of musician Ilayaraja. Echo, Time.news Music, Unisex and Giri Trading were banned by the court. The order was issued on a petition filed by Ilayaraja stating that the contract with these companies had expired. The court directed to send notices to the institutions seeking clarification in this regard. The petition will be considered again on March 21.

Ilayaraja’s plea was initially considered by the court but was later rejected. The new order is based on a petition filed against it. Ilayaraja argued before the division bench that the single bench had dismissed the petition without considering the copyright law. He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture.

Earlier, Ilayaraja came on the scene to demand royalties for the use of his songs for concerts and stage performances. Singer-songwriter S.K. P. He had also sent a notice to Balasubramaniam.
