An illicit beauty clinic was discovered in Vienna’s Favoriten district on Thursday, August 1, 2025, following a three-week investigation triggered by an anonymous report. The discovery comes amid growing alarm over a recent increase in unregulated cosmetic procedures, including a similar clinic that was destroyed in Simmering. Authorities are warning the public about the potentially life-threatening risks associated with unqualified practitioners offering aesthetic treatments.
Investigation Launched After Anonymous Report
The investigation, led by Vienna’s Group of Immediate Measures, focused on a nail studio in Favoriten after receiving an anonymous tip. Authorities soon discovered that the location was also being used to administer aesthetic treatments, including botox and filler injections.
“We have found a cleaner there who tried to tell us credibly that she is doing cleaning work there. But we then found that this lady is apparently the one who carries out the treatments,” a senior official stated to Radio Vienna on Friday. The woman, who was not a registered medical professional, allegedly misrepresented herself as a doctor.
Serious Health Risks Associated with Unqualified Procedures
The discovery underscores a worrying trend of illegal beauty clinics operating in Vienna. Authorities emphasize the severe health risks associated with these establishments.
“These repeated discoveries of illegal beauty clinics are an alarming sign,” said Walter Hillerer, head of the Group of Immediate Measures. “Interference such as filler and botox treatments could lead to permanent damage in the event of unqualified implementation or even fatal.”
