Find the mistake. According to the government, the exceptional tax on oil activities in France, a European system which it has transcribed into the budget for 2023, should bring in 200 million euros next year. However, a study unveiled this Thursday by the Institute of Public Policies (IPP) and Cepremap estimates that this version of the tax on “superprofits” should generate between 6 and 7.3 billion euros in revenue for the State. .

As the researchers point out, this “temporary solidarity contribution”, which essentially affects refining activities in France and which accompanies a broader mechanism aimed at energy companies, will apply to the results of companies at the level of the legal unit (and not of the tax group) and will tax at 33% profits exceeding by 20% the average for the years 2018 to 2021.
