Immigration Law: AME, resignation of Rousseau, voice of the RN… what to remember from Borne’s declarations

Élisabeth Borne wanted to be clear this Wednesday morning: the Immigration law passed Tuesday evening in the National Assembly does not play into the hands of the National Rally. She added that measures which had passed into the text would be looked at again in the coming weeks, some which could prove unconstitutional, others which could be “adapted”. A text voted “without the votes of the RN”

Since Tuesday evening, several politicians have pointed out the fact that if the RN had abstained from voting for the Immigration law, it would not have passed, which the Prime Minister defends. “It was voted on without the votes of the National Rally,” she repeated, “I exclude them, we don’t want them.” She speaks of a “maneuver by the RN” which in fact did not want this text but is playing political recovery.

“A certain number of our deputies were embarrassed that the RN came to vote on this text”, she explains, “if he had voted against I think we would have had more votes”.

Rousseau’s resignation “not received”

The Prime Minister brushed aside questions about the resignation of Health Minister Aurélien Rousseau, announced by a ministerial source on Tuesday. Emmanuel Macron “did not receive the resignation” of the minister. “It’s a non-subject (…) We’re going to stop commenting on things that don’t exist,” she declared.

“No question of removing” the AME

There is “no question of eliminating” State Medical Aid (AME) for undocumented foreigners, assured Élisabeth Borne this Wednesday morning, after having committed to the right to carry out a reform from early 2024. “We asked for a report” and “we are going to keep the AME”, she assured.

Measures contrary to the Constitution

Élisabeth Borne recognized that certain measures voted in the text could be contrary to the Constitution. It “will perhaps evolve after the passage to the Constitutional Council”, she declared. “We will look at each of the measures that can be adapted,” she adds.
