InpAkta: Journal of Research for Social Impact, which originates from the reflections made after the pandemic, has been created by various stakeholders “because then the need to address issues with a large social impact in a scientific way and the interest of society in research and science, when dealing with issues that affect us, emerged these studies”. The purpose of the project is to address “social and political issues that have a direct impact on society”, as explained on the last day of the 58th Durango Fair.

This scientific journal will deal with issues of social impact in different disciplines in Basque and English and will release two issues a year from 2025 as they advanced in the presentation made to inform the origin, objectives and main characteristics of the publication. Four project representatives were present at the event: Ugo Mayor, UPV/EHU Ikerbasque researcher and editor-in-chief of InpAkta magazine; Miren Estenso, senior researcher at the Deusto Orchestra; Arantza del Pozo is the Director of Voice and Natural Language Processing Technologies at Vicomtech and Urtzi Etxebarri is the Director of the IKER research center.

The magazine will cover five main areas: Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Territorial Planning and Technology. In order to bridge the gap between society and the world of research, they have presented a scientific journal that will include evidence-based research from all disciplines.

The presented number zero has collected 20 articles, of which 17 are in English and 3 in Basque, demonstrating the research works that will be included in the magazine. The intention of the sponsors is, if sufficient funding is obtained, to publish all articles in English and Basque in each issue, offering Basque researchers the opportunity to conduct research in Basque, without losing the reach of English. The call for the first number will open on March 1, 2024.

The InpAkta project has been promoted by 22 institutions: the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the University of Mondragon, the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, the University of Navarra, the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), the University of Deusto, CNRS IKER-UMR 5478, Agirre Lehendakari Centre, Arantzazulab, Telesforo Monzon eLab, Basque Institute for Orchestra-Competitiveness, Université de Bordeaux, Université Bordeaux Montaigne, Basque Research and Technology Alliance, Aditech, Navarra Research and Development network coordinator, Elhuyar Foundation, Eusko Ikaskuntza, Center for Basque Studies – Reno, Boise State University Basque Studies, Summer Basque University (UEU), Cenarrusa Foundation for Basque Culture and Sociolinguistics Cluster.
