Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested in various corruption cases and is being held in Adiala Jail. The trial of the cases against him has been completed and judgments have been issued from time to time.
In this case, the court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bivi to 7 years imprisonment each in the marriage case against Islamic practice.
Bushra Bivi’s first husband Kawar Maneka had pursued the case. In this petition, he had alleged that he had violated the Islamic practice of mandatory waiting period (iddah) for remarriage. He also alleged that having an illicit relationship before marriage was a crime punishable by stoning.
The final trial in Adiala Jail yesterday lasted for about 14 hours. At the end of the investigation, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bivi were found to have married in violation of Islamic practice and both were sentenced.
