Economic Crisis:
Neighboring Pakistan is facing a severe economic crisis for a variety of reasons, including the corona curfew. Thus the prices of all commodities including essentials have gone up. The country is also experiencing severe inflation. Opposition groups called for the beleagured PM to resign.
Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections, but will issue a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday. But as the ruling party had enough strength in the lower house of parliament, the resolution came from a situation where Imran Khan could not overthrow the government.
