What James Kafetzi’s brother said about their father’s wreck
At noon on Saturday (13/4), speaking to SKAI, Mike Cafetzis narrated the incredible adventure his father had. While James Kafetzis is in Santo Domingo for the needs of Survivor, his father is shipwrecked in the Pacific Ocean, as part of his attempt to cross it in a sailboat.
Speaking to SKAI, Mike Cafetzis said: “After all, someone else is the real Survivor, not my brother who went on the survival reality show twice, but my father who managed and survived in the middle of the Pacific Ocean while his ship was sinking.”
And he continued:It started from Rhodes, went to Italy, then Spain, then crossed Gibraltar, went to the Canary Islands, went down to Cape Verde… In 2016, together with my father and brother, we crossed the Atlantic together. It took us 12 days. At night while he was sailing, he caught a heavy bilge, a very strong wind broke the mast, fell the mast down and created a crack in the front of the ship. He was left with an engine, he was left with a generator, so his batteries were dying. So his mast breaks, the ship was left unruly, it had a crack in it, but like all ships it had a pump to be able to get the water out.”
He then described: “But because it didn’t have much battery and it happened to be cloudy for two days, the batteries were discharging and at some point the pumps stopped pumping the water inside the ship. He began to sink without being able to do anything. My father fell and hit his hip. In order not to hit more, he lay on the floor during the 24 hours he was unruly».
The father of James and Mike Kafetzis was finally saved thanks to the help offered by a fishing boat.
