In a telephone poll: The government approved the bill limiting the term of office of the Prime Minister

by time news

The government approved tonight (Sunday) in a telephone poll the bill to limit the term of office of a prime minister to eight years. Now, the bill will be passed to the plenum to approve it on second and third reading.

Last week, the Ministerial Committee on Legislation unanimously approved the bill in question, which seeks to limit prime ministers to only two terms, for a period of eight years. The law applies to the cumulative tenure of the prime minister, unless the term of office exceeds three years.

As stated, the next step of the bill is to go up in the plenum for a second and third reading. If it passes the Knesset members’ vote, the law will be included in Israel’s law book.
