In Armenia, the prices of butter and oil have decreased, instead, the price of sugar has increased.
“There is a slight decrease in prices on the butter market, the market has started to settle. The logistical problems caused by the coronavirus have not yet disappeared, but stability is being observed. For example, if 1 kg of “New Zealand” butter was AMD 4,420 on May 27, now it is AMD 4,380,” Gegham Gevorgyan, chairman of the Competition Protection Commission, said at a meeting with journalists.
Now there is an increase in prices on the chicken meat market, up to 1490-1510 drams, as for sugar, the high price is maintained.
“If sugar per kg was 390-391 drams in May, now it is close to 400 drams. No sugar was produced in Armenia this year due to the problems of importing raw materials. Last year, we imported quota sugar to the republic, as a result of which the price dropped for a moment, but this quota sugar is also distributed in the EAEU, it is not unlimited,” said the president of the MSU.
The main country from which Armenia imports sugar is Russia, which also has a sugar problem.
According to Gevorgyan, the price of oil has finally started to decrease a little, moreover, this is the product market where the price increase is the most.
“In the period from May to December, the price of oil was reduced by about 300 drams, but I think this reduced price will decrease even more as a result of market regulation and elimination of the consequences of the coronavirus,” he added.
