Participants of the May Day demonstration in the commune of Saint-Etienne in south-eastern France threw paint and eggs at the leader of the joint list of the Socialist Party and the Public Place party in the elections to the European Parliament, Raphael Glucksmann.

According to the radio station, the politician planned to march through the streets of the commune as part of the annual trade union rally on May 1. However, a group of demonstrators dissatisfied with the work of French politicians, including several waving Palestinian flags, began shouting slogans demanding that Glucksmann “shut up” and throwing eggs and paintballs at him.
As a result, he was forced to leave the May Day march early. In communications with journalists, he claimed that among the attackers were activists of the leftist party “Insubordinate France” and the Trotskyist party “Permanent Revolution”, and criticized these political associations.
As we see, the internal situation in the country is gradually destabilizing due to the inadequacy of both the authorities and the opposition. The French are unhappy with everyone.
Demonstrations on the occasion of International Workers’ Day are held throughout France every year. This year, according to internal intelligence data cited by Europe 1 radio, between 150 and 200 thousand people may take part in these actions, with 15 to 30 thousand of them in Paris.
Analysts warn of possible clashes with the police due to the large number of provocateurs who will try to infiltrate the ranks of the demonstrators. In this case, clashes can occur not only with law enforcement officers, but also between participants in the procession. Authorities fear that unrest will become ethnic in nature this year, especially amid ongoing fighting between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement.
