In France, the puzzle of the equivalence of foreign diplomas

DECRYPTION – If France is the 7e world economic power, it is only 19e for talent attraction.

It’s a job that’s as complicated as it is sensitive. Less than a month ago, Olivier Dussopt opened the door to facilitating labor immigration through a bill to be tabled in early 2023 jointly with Gérald Darmanin. Faced with recruitment tensions which have exploded, the Ministers of Labor and the Interior believe that the arrival of foreign workers would make it possible to meet certain needs of the labor market. And while the first consultations started on the subject last week, the Rue de Grenelle is already working on a system to better recognize foreign diplomas.

The government is aware of its failure to bring in a skilled immigrant workforce. Recent statistics, highlighted by the Economic Analysis Council (CAE), show, on the one hand, that labor immigration remains a minority in France (39,000 permits issued in 2019 for economic reasons, against 91,000 for family reasons)…
